Anniversary

It's been a quarter of a century since the attacks of September 11, 2001, in New York city.

While the jury is still out on whether this was a false flag/inside job inspired by the evil neo-cons, deliberate negligence to allow it to happen, or ineptitude on part of the Bush regime, the toll it has taken and the results it has yielded have been a disaster for the US.

2001 was the year that the US started its descent from being a world economic and military power. It bogged itself down in its fraudulent 'War on terror' and bankrupted itself in every way imaginable.

None of its aims have been accomplished. The terrorists that the US sought to kill have either multiplied, or were eventually co-opted by it for nefarious, self-serving reasons.

How did it all start, and how did it all go so wrong?

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the US was smarting and delirious after its supposed cold war victory-which really wasn't.

Without any serious contenders that could rein it in, the US saw itself as the premier military power with the most advanced economy on earth.

Throughout the 1990s, the US went around dictating, attacking, and robbing everyone it could without hindrance or any serious blow-back. It was instrumental in breaking up Yugoslavia and bringing war and conflict to Europe for the first time since 1945. 

When no one held it to account, it emboldened the US regimes even more, and convinced them that they are all-powerful and can do whatever they want.

By the year 2000, the US no longer felt hindered by anyone, and was itching to put the final touches on a world order under its hegemony that it wanted since 1945.

If it could just get rid of the last few legal, diplomatic, nominally democratic, and moral constraints, it could finally go for broke and finish setting up its worldwide empire.

The attacks of 9/11 gave the US this opportunity. 

The subsequent passage of the notorious Patriot Act enabled the US regimes to finally get rid of those constraints and legal hurdles which stood in the way of its warmongering.

But after numerous interventions based on false evidence and cooked intelligence in places like Iraq, this gambit failed miserably after decades of killing and being killed, and wasting money and resources.

Now Donnie is running around acting like an escaped mental patient pretending to be president.

The US military is not even a shadow of its former self. It's sense of power was always based on fighting carefully-chosen, weak and backward adversaries. US fought quick and easy wars of choice that cost it little.

Then came Afghanistan, and the humiliating loss to the Taliban.

Then came ukraine, and the embarrassing debacle of US military planning and technological inferiority to Russian weapons technology and performance.

Now, Iran has humiliated the US by decimating its bases, ships and planes, and crippling the oil economies of US Gulf Arab vassal states, basically evicting the US from the Mideast. The Strait of Hormuz has also been closed by Iran to all unfriendly countries.

Now, the Yemenis have regained control over the Bab-Al-Mandeb Strait, a Red Sea choke point through which many ships flow West and East.

The failed US 'War on Terror' made all this possible. 

It been a stepping stone to further disasters.

The Taliban exhausted the US military.

Russian exhausted it, along with NATO, even further in ukraine.

The war against Iran crippled the US.

It's been a long-running downward spiral of miscalculation, loss, failure, and embarrassment for the US.

And now, the US has ran out of weapons, equipment, and money to rebuild its military to where it was.

It also lacks the know-how and technology for fighting a real war.

The rest of the world sees this debacle, and no longer fears the US as it once did.

US propaganda at the time 9/11 occurred gloated that 'The terrorists failed to bring the US down.'

Yes, the terrorists themselves did not bring the US down with those attacks.

They did something far worse.

They got the US to bring itself down by 'striking back.'

So in this respect, the terrorists succeeded.
